Us, women, we are human beings and just as capable as men and now as we come to the end of the greatest war on humanity we have faced thus far, we have not only proved ourselves capable but we have earned our equality.. In 1848, reformist Elizabeth Cady Stanton organized the first womans rights convention in Seneca Falls, New York. My great grandmother attended this meeting to show support for all white women. She wanted a better education for my mother then she had and she wanted my mother to be able to earn her own money and hold her own job. At that time, married women were not allowed to own property or keep any of their wages, everything belonged to their husbands. My grandmother didnt agree with this. My mother grew up knowing and believing that us women are individuals and play just as much as a role in society as men do. We were thought of as second class citizens. Were not just housekeepers and baby makers there are more to our lives we are capable of and we need to fight for that opportunitybut this was a turning point. Women were gaining rights slowly throughout the United States, but Susan B. Anthony wanted voting for all women (at least white women) in the United States. In 1890 voting was still a state choice, not a federal choice she knew she needed to find a way to change the constitution to give all women a voice as a whole across the US. Susan B. Anthony and her followers were more radical than Elizabeth Cady Stanton, she would organize hunger strikes and pickets at the White House. She created the National American Woman Suffrage Association. By 1919, World War I brought Womens rights to the forefront. WWI was a fight for all humanity and even our President Woodrow Wilson has changed his mind about us. He is fighting alongside us for our right to vote and hold office. This would be a great accomplishment for us women. My husband, along with many men were called to fight in this Great War. Being that they were gone us women were needed to fill in the job roles plus more. The war needed weapons, and gear for our men fighting. Women had to go to work we stepped up, but we werent paid fairly our bosses would only pay us a quarter or what men were making. We need to work, manage our children, were being mom and Dad. But we fought and demanded equal pay and at least for wartime were awarded that. In numbers we can accomplish anything. But the first time Wilson brought the 19th Amendment to the table it was turned down it would be the second time that finally us women, were given our right to vote. They could no longer deny u s based on our sex. Now we held some power. The US Congress passing the 19th Amendment radically changed US history. For the first time us women had a real voice but still today many men do not see us as equal partners. There are many pros and cons to finally obtaining our right to vote. The biggest pro of the womens suffrage movement was pushing the US into a more democratic state. Now, with women being allowed to vote as well, there is justice. Another thing, now that we have the right to vote us white people have more control in whats going to happen, for the few black men that did gain their rights in the late 1800s we now have shifted the political vote primarily with white middle class people. Socially we are rejoicing that we now have secured our dominance. Women now are allowed to own property and hold jobs that once were thought to be mens work. We can now sit on a jury and testify in court; we are now protected by the law where once we were at the whims of our husbands. We are not property we are human beings. One thing that the suffrage movement did cause was a more divided line in our social classes. While middle class whites were rejoicing the 19th Amendment did not include anything about different racial classes being allowed to vote or poor peopleit only said we couldnt be denied based on sex. It divided our country even more racially while unifying our political democracy. Many people especially the lower classes were considered incompetent voters they were uneducated and couldnt afford to vote. Groups in power kept their power by creating laws and such to keep these people from voting polls. Our fight for equality is nowhere near the end and as my grandmother did, my mother did, and I am doing and my daughter is growing up we will continue to fight for equality among women. We show pride in our country and have proved our nationalism to our president which changed his mind on his stance about us women voting, now its time to push forward and fight for equality without sexual discrimination. We are grateful that justice has prevailed and we now undoubtedly, have our right to vote but this was just a tip of the iceberg and we are just showing the nation how strong and powerful us women really are.

Among grads earning $100,000 or more, only 12% expected new grads to see a higher return from their degree than they did. Twice the  percentage of people  making $75,000 to $100,000 had that optimistic expectation. If the financial statements so made are not as per the relevant notified standard then the same fact shall be disclosed as per the disclosure requirements of the relevant accounting standard in order to give the true and fair view of the affairs of the company Along with the above, the auditors are required to audit the books of accounts along with the financial statements of the company and shall give the report stating their opinion as to whether the disclosures so made or financial statements so prepared are in accordance with the relevant financial statements (FRC, 2014). But the provision of the Corporations Act is in disagreement with the concept of the true and fair view as envisaged since its inception or coming into existence. The Corporations Act have laid down that if the financial statements are in compliance with the accounting standards then no disclosure is required and in case it does not comply with the relevant accounting standards as applicable to the company then the disclosure needs to be made as to represent the true and fair view of the financial position and financial performance of the company. The same has been argued by many authors and persons. The Institute of Directors located in Australia has argued that the mandatory provisions as envisaged by the Corporations Act is the applicability and the compliance with the accounting standards and to have the financial statements represented the true and fair view, the necessary disclosure will be required when the standards are not applied and hence regarded the true and fair view as secondary compliance. Further the Chairman of the board has argued and stated that the two concepts true and fair view and the accounting standards are two distinct and separate and cannot be equated with one another. This fact is further supported by committee of the Auditing and Assurance Board of Australia when it is stated that the true and fair view is the concept which has over riding effect in almost all of the accounting standards and no requirement of any accounting or auditing standard can equate with the same. One of member of the same committee has further argued that in common parlance if the company is maintaining the books of accounts and preparing the financial statements in accordance with the accounting standards then the same in itself communicate the fact that the companys financial statements reflects a true and fair view of the financial position and the financial performance of the company. The committee and Australian Exchange Commission members in consorti um has further argued its the duty of the auditors to verify the books of accounts and check whether the financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the relevant accounting standards. After checking and verifying the same the auditor shall give his or her opinion in the audit report stating the flaws or discrepancies if any noticed and the non compliance with the relevant accounting standard if any comes into place during the audit. Thus, these arguments reflect that the accounting standard has been developed and maintained only for reflecting the true and fair view of the conduct of the company. Without the accounting standards the financial statements cannot represent the true and fair view and also will not be helpful for the users if the financial statements. In this way, the concept of true and fair view has gained significance and has got support from various boards and committees and has over riding effect over all the statutes and regulations and governance. Every company is required to prepare the financial statements at the period end and as per the provisions of the Corporations Act 2001; the company shall comply with the relevant accounting standards. The Battle of Dunkirk Essay Source A, B and C are useful when finding out what the Battle of Dunkirk was like because they are three different accounts of a personal experience of Dunkirk. The first source, source A is useful because it describes the evacuation of men from the beaches of Dunkirk back to Britain. The author of source A describes it as a terrible night for there was hardly any army and the ones they did have were useless. This suggests that the situation was very disorganised as they would have been retreating from constant German attacks. The phrases rabble suggests disorganisation and the odds and ends of an army implies something rather dreadful has happened to the men. For example they may have been hit by German dive bombers and so consequently many troops have been split up from one another in the rush to retreat from the Germans and mixed with the French and Belgium. The source is written by Thomas Kerr who was one of the naval officers sent to organise the evacuation, so therefore he should know what was actually going on. From the source it appears that he was pessimistic about the evacuation. But Kerr genuinely felt that many men could not be rescued as they had a small and hopeless navy. Although in hindsight many more men that he ever though could be evacuated were actually evacuated. Around 338,000 soldiers were rescued, 198,000 of these being British and 139,000 being French. Source B describes a scene from the battle, where German Fighter planes cut through those columns of soldiers like a reaper slicing through corn. This suggests that the German machine guns were successful at killing many of the British men. They do, however, seem to be exaggerated. Compared to Source A, Source B has a completely different opinion to source A about the Battle. Source A talks about how the men were the odds and ends of an army but sources B and C talk about how brave and heroic the soldiers were and in columns which suggests organisation. This difference of opinion may be because Source B was written by a seaman, manning one of the boats from the minesweeper. This was a small boat rescuing people from the land to bigger boats. This was only one end of the beach and very close to it, further up the beach and further away there may have been less chaos and organisation. Source C describes one man opinion of another mans bravery during the evacuation of Dunkirk. According to the author an RASC sergeant was the bravest man I ever saw. When the German Heinkel planes came back to attack, he grabbed his gun and shot at them. This then tells us, that some men knew what they were doing and had some bravery and also some skill. The source also shows a sense of desperation and no organisation though when it describes the RASC sergeant blazing away at the Germans. As it shows that there was panic and that he was lucky he had his gun to shoot at the Germans. Source C contradicts source A, as source A says that the men were completely useless, where as source C demonstrates the bravery of this one man although there was still a lack of organisation. In conclusion, none of the sources have dates with them, so they could have been written at anytime. This makes them less reliable because if they were written after the time of the evacuation, it is likely details may have been forgotten or made up. All 3 sources were personal accounts written by men on board the ships. This is a disadvantage because there is no information from the men who were contributing in other parts of the country for example in the army or from the civilians. Also none of them were on the beach itself therefore wouldnt know the position or attitudes of those men who were trying to escape of the beach. Sources B and C are written by men who were working the ships, and were not trained officers, while source A was written by Commander Thomas Kerr, who was one of the naval officers sent to organise it. Therefore his opinion will be more reliable than the others as he was in a high up and respected position of the navy. Also he would therefore have had an overview of everything and had a better idea of the plans for the evacuation. What could make it even more reliable was if we had a German point of view in one of these sources, because they are all from British men therefore only have one countrys point of view of it all. If there was a German point of view, the reader could learn about the evacuation from their knowledge and gain information as they may have had a different experience as they were the attackers. Although the sources are not useful because they are all only one mans opinion of the evacuation and it took place at only one place of the beach. For perhaps on another part of the beach they were lined up in columns with great organisation. Furthermore, this was only one moment out of the whole of the Battle which lasted from the 24th of May to the 4th June 1940, on other days it may have been worse or more unperturbed for the men.

Here are the answers to the most common hot ice questions as well as advice on how to fix the usual problems making hot ice. What Is hot ice? Hot ice is a common name for sodium acetate trihydrate. How Do I Make Hot Ice? You can make hot ice yourself from baking soda and clear vinegar. Ive got written instructions and a video tutorial to show you how to do it. In the lab, you could make hot ice from sodium bicarbonate and weak acetic acid (1 L 6% acetic acid, 84 grams sodium bicarbonate) or from acetic acid and sodium hydroxide (dangerous! 60 ml water, 60 ml glacial acetic acid, 40 g sodium hydroxide). The mixture is boiled down and prepared the same as the homemade version. You can also buy sodium acetate (or sodium acetate anhydrous) and sodium acetate trihydrate. Sodium acetate trihydrate can be melted and used as-is. Convert sodium acetate anhydrous to sodium acetate trihydrate by dissolving it in water and cooking it down to remove the excess water. Can I Substitute Baking Powder for the Baking Soda? No. Baking powder contains other chemicals which would act as impurities in this procedure and prevent the hot ice from working. Can I Use Another Type of Vinegar? No. There are impurities in other types of vinegar which would prevent the hot ice from crystallizing. You could use dilute acetic acid instead of vinegar. I Cant Get the Hot Ice to Solidify. What Can I Do? You dont have to start from scratch! Take your failed hot ice solution (wont solidify or else is mushy) and add some vinegar to it. Heat the hot ice solution until the crystal skin forms, immediately remove it from heat, cool it at least down to room temperature, and initiate crystallization by adding a small quantity of the crystals that formed on the side of your pan (sodium acetate anhydrous). Another way to initiate crystallization is to add a small amount of baking soda, but if you do that you will contaminate your hot ice with sodium bicarbonate. Its still a handy way to cause crystallization if you dont have any sodium acetate crystals handy, plus you can remedy the contamination by adding a small volume of vinegar afterward. Can I Re-Use the Hot Ice? Yes, you can re-use hot ice. You can melt it on the stove to use it again or you can microwave the hot ice. Can I Eat Hot Ice? Technically you can, but I wouldnt recommend it. It is not toxic, but it is not edible. You Show Glass and Metal Containers. Can I Use Plastic? Yes, you can. I used metal and glass because I melted the hot ice on the stove. You could melt the hot ice in a microwave using a plastic container. Are Containers Used to Make Hot Ice Safe to Use for Food? Yes. Yellow or brown hot ice works... it just doesnt look that much like ice. The discoloration has two causes. One is overheating your hot ice solution. A Review of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, a Novel by J. K. Rowling The novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, written by J. K. Rowling is the first book in a seven-part series. Harry Potter’s heroic journey through the Muggle World into the Wizarding World shows a growth in himself and his mind. Potter follows the stages introduced by Joseph Campbells Monomyth, learning new wizarding skills and challenging himself. Harry demonstrates the three stages; separation, initiation, and return, which are then divided into seventeen steps. Harry Potter’s heroic journey can be traced by readers throughout the novel. The first stage of Joseph Cambell’s seventeen stage monomyth is separation, with five steps: call to adventure, refusal of call, supernatural aid, crossing the threshold, and belly of the whale. The call to adventure is the original alarm given to the hero, taking him from normality into an unknown trip. Harry Potter lives with his uncle, aunt, and cousin who hide from Harry that he is a wizard. His uncle, Mr. Dursley, shows characteristics of the ruler archetype by trying to have the most successful family. He displays his force through constantly nagging Potter. Dursley takes drastic measures to keep the letters that Harry has been admitted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry unopened, like moving the family of four out to a secret shack. The first two steps in Joseph Cambell’s monomyth are actually switched because oddly enough, the refusal of call is not done by Potter himself, but by his own uncle before the call to adventure. The refusal of the call is when the hero objects to the undertaking. Fortunately Mr. Durley could not keep the mail a secret and Potter ends up receiving a letter that he is admitted to Hogwarts School. Harry seems excited and ready to explore the magical world. A supernatural aid is often a figure who guides the hero through his new journey. Harry’s supernatural aid is a â€Å"giant of a man† who delivers the letter on Potter’s eleventh birthday, Rubeus Hagrid (Rowling 46). Hagrid can be classified as an explorer in the twelve common archetypes. The motto that the explorer exhibits is â€Å"don’t fence me in† (Golden 3). Throughout the book, he likes to live alone and barbarically as keeper of the grounds. Hagrid first introduces Harry to the wizardry world and helps him and his friends decipher the Sorcerers Stone. In the next step Harry crosses the threshold by leaving the behind his world of normality for a foreign experience. This is done by Potter at the â€Å"famous † Leaky Cauldron with Hagrid (Rowling 68). Potter is greeted with â€Å"scraping chairs† of excitement and instantly â€Å"shaking hands with everyone in the Leaky Cauldron† (69). He will then cross another threshold in Diagon Alley where he encounters â€Å"dragon liver† and the â€Å"Gringotts† (72). The last threshold crossed is at Platform 9  ¾ with a fellow wizard family named the Weasleys into the wizarding world. This is when Harry meets a young boy named Ronald, a pureblood. Harry and Ronald descend from magic from both of parents which causes them to bond on the eleven o’clock train to Hogwarts. The fifth and final step of the first stage is the belly of the whale. The belly of the whale is the heros final step before entering the real calling; it is represented in the novel when Harry is faced with the sorting hat. He is nervous because he could be sorted into the house of Slytherin, the house of evil. Inside his head he chants, à ¢â‚¬Å"not Slytherin, not Slytherin† in which the hat responds by giving into his choice (121). By ultimately choosing Griffindor , the room gave â€Å"the loudest cheer yet† (121). This shows his test in character and at this point Harry leaves the muggle world and enters the unknown. The second stage of Joseph Cambell’s seventeen-stage monomyth is initiation with seven steps: road of trials, meeting the goddess, temptation, atonement with the father, apostasis, the ultimate boon, and the refusal of return. This is usually the longest, most eventful, and entertaining stage of Cambell’s monomyth. The road of trials are tests given the hero to complete in order to transform. Harry is faced with many minor problems within his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but one of his major road of trials is an evil, â€Å"foul smelling† troll (174). Inexperienced in magic, he uses it anyway in order to rescue his friend he accidentally traps, Hermione. This is when he becomes closer to Ron and Hermione and a long friendship blooms. Another is thinking that Professor Snape is the thief behind the sorcerers stone. By focusing on Professor Snape, Harry overlooks the real traitor of Hogwarts. Meeting the goddess affects the hero by havi ng them feel eternal love. This step is sometimes represented by a mother figure. Lily, Harry’s mother, sacrificed her life for her son against Lord Voldemort. Even after her death she continues to protect her son with the scar given to him as a baby. Each time Voldemort is near, the scar burns as a warning. During the battle against Quirrel and Lord Voldemort, Quirrell could not touch Harry, his hands â€Å"looked burned, raw, red, and shiny,† due to the love of Harry’s mother (295). Lily died to save him. Temptations are defined as an object given to the hero to stray from his goal. An invisible cloak, from his father allows Harry to travel the school without being seen. One night over winter break he locates the Mirror of Erised, an ancient mirror that shows onlookers â€Å"‘the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts’† (213). While looking into the mirror, Harry sees people who are not located in the room. A woman who has â€Å"dark red hair† and eyes just like himself peers through the mirror along with other familiar faces (208). Potter realizes that these people are his dead family. This image that he desires keeps him coming back to the mirror each night for about a week. The Mirror of Erised is known as Harry’s temptation because the visits stray him from his goal of finding out who stole the sorcerers stone. The atonement of the father occurs when the hero confronts the object that holds the most power over his life. Although Voldemort is not a father figure, Harry needs to defeat him in order to turn a new stone in his life.
